Paver Sanding
Serving Baltimore, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County, Anne Arundel County. Paver sanding (joint sanding) refills gaps between pavers with clean polymeric sand after cleaning or installation. Properly filled joints interlock pavers, reduce weeds and ants, minimize washout, and prepare the surface for sealing.
What Is Paver Sanding?
Paver joints lose sand over time due to weather, foot traffic, and prior pressure washing. During sanding we sweep a calibrated joint sand across the surface, settle it into the joints, and compact until it sits just below the chamfer. For polymeric sand, we activate the binders with a controlled light mist.
Why It Matters
- Stability & Interlock: Limits movement and maintains a flat, even surface.
- Weed & Insect Resistance: Packed joints make growth and ant tunneling harder.
- Erosion Control: Reduces joint washout during storms and routine cleaning.
- Freeze–Thaw Protection: In Maryland’s climate, healthy joints limit heaving and water intrusion.
- Curb Appeal: Clean, consistent joints sharpen the overall look of patios and walkways.
When Should You Re‑Sand?
- After a professional patio cleaning or power wash.
- When joints look low/uneven or you notice weeds/ants.
- Before sealing so the sealer locks joints in place.
- Typically every 2–4 years depending on traffic and exposure.
Our Professional Process
- Preparation: Clear debris, confirm a dry weather window, mask sensitive edges.
- Sanding: Broadcast joint sand and sweep into joints in overlapping passes.
- Compaction: Vibratory compaction where appropriate to settle sand to the correct depth.
- Final Sweep & Activation: Fine sweep to remove residue; light mist to activate polymeric sand.
- Optional Sealing: Apply a breathable sealer to lock sand, enhance color, and improve stain resistance.
